The best thing about a Wisconsin winter is coming in from the outdoors to someplace warm and welcoming. When the snow falls and the assignments pile up, visit one of the two expansive student unions, Memorial Union and Union South. Relax in front of a roaring fire, catch a movie, go bowling, study, or socialize: all are possible in UW’s student unions.

The Memorial Union’s Der Rathskeller is a folksy mix of German-themed murals, ornate wooden architecture, funky carved tables, and fireplaces. Settle in and watch Wisconsin sports on the big screen, play pool, browse an art gallery, or catch a performance. Whatever you do, know that you have found the coziest place on campus.

The newer Union South features natural light and modern architecture, an homage to Wisconsin’s environmental legends. Its gently flowing spaces coax you in for some work—and some fun, with restaurants, a movie theater, climbing wall, bowling alley, and scores of large-screen TVs for sporting events.
